What a shame
At least i can blame the ping for my mistakes then

I'm thinking Miami or new York hubs. Like you were saying, the loss coming to the US is greater.. because the US is more invested in international hubs or whatever the proper terminology is... player base I would agree is higher in the states as well.. More pros for US placement over EU I would discern.

You guys need to keep in mind our limitations, too. I'm not an expert at server hosting or what not, but I'm going to assume having someone on the team near the server hosting service is preferable. It will need a liaison, and someone local seems much more sensible. Which to me puts our options at North-East coast (KingHussien, NY), UK (Nat, North of England), Germany (Jercy) and Russia (Foma). We may be able to stretch that though, and Carl Swagan has a friend who might be able to help with servers. Then you have to consider cost effectiveness, set up costs, maintenance, contracts... it's a mess.
Besides, it's probably a while off. I imagine our own machines will be able to handle local testing, but then again maybe not.

Your local machines should be able to host testing. But if your talking about a stress test in darkfall im not so sure it will.
The costs although maybe a factor now wont be if donations are accepted. People will pay money to help their project.
There is alot of desperation in these dfo vets and if your project is ready to go before AV well then people will put up even more money to rush it so they can play.
It sucks only one person on your team is capable of doing the reverse engineering but the money will come to you if you ask.
If you build it they will come.

But other than that, as Jercy said, hosting a server is easier than you think. If you order a server, it will be setup for you usually within 8-12 hours. You have a full web backend interface to configure everything and on top of that SSH or Remote Desktop access, etc. And depending on provider and the level of support, you have 24h to 48h "reaction time" if something breaks, like sudden HD failure or so. If you are into that, it is really easy and smooth.
