I dont see why AV would like another DF server out there, as it would draw ppl from DFUW. I think its kinda obvious.

I highly doubt its realistic we can expect two guys(as Forma posted, with limited programming knowledge) to make a standalone into a fully fledged version like the one we saw at the end of Darkfall 1. On top of that, its the 2007 build, which means there is still tons of bugs, patches etc that "fixed" Darkfall after that.
The only way I ever see this happening is if that somehow AV agrees to do a kickstarter and if they get enough backup they host one darkfall server(preferably iceland/east USA), which they can improve from there on. But according to them the code was too much of a mess as well. Im willing to write or help write a professional letter to AV, one last time(or one last try), to see if they are interested. Just let me know.

Just let me know. Completely agree with this. Realistically I don't think a emulated DFO server based off of the 2007 build is a viable option. What we can wish for though is that this might make AV take action and actually do something... Kickstarter/Crowdfunding to cover hosting costs / Relaunch with a normal sub price / Putting the whole thing up for sale I think these are all viable options that AV could take.. Really what I think is the most important thing to do right now is to somehow make AV aware of the fact that there is a demand for the classic game, and that there is money for them to be made if they give in to the community request. There has to be some sort of incentive to begin with in order for them to even consider doing this.

The first step to get this organized is to get as many people interested gathered here, an open arena to discuss it without AV's banhammer swinging. It is still not clear who is here just for the ride, or who will be willing to chip in on this either through money, knowledge or other ways. The only way I really see this getting done is to get either this guy who posted the vid last night with us, or CrispyExtra (the other guy who stopped his project 1-2 years back i think). They have already done some work, know the structure of the game, and can help guide the project in the right direction. Regarding workforce, when I first made this forum and tried to gather some people with IT experience, I also checked out freelancer.com and similar sites. The response was HUGE to participate on this project, and the prices were actually surprisingly low to hire experienced personell to work on this. - What I envision: We get one of the two abovementioned guys with us, they tell us what they need done, we hire some cheap labour, and the project developes in this fashion, also taking into account anybody willing to take on assignments for free. Once the game is in a playable state, I believe server hiring would not be a big problem in terms of funding. Alot of people have already contacted me and said they would donate to keep a server alive. Till then, we're all ears for ideas on getting this going on. same goes for me !

Have you ever tried to ask Av how much money they want to buy the rights of DF1? Maybe with a kickstarter and people interested we will be able to buy it and manage our official server.

Any news/progress? Things seem to have slowed down.
Realistically I too think that an official run server is the only viable option if we want a enjoyable experience.
DFO has about a thousand times more potential than UW still to this very date. I hope theres a private investor/gaming studio out there to realize this. And in parallel to this I don't think a 4-5-600k asking price is that far stretched.
Second option is the AV hosted DFO server through a kickstarter or something similar, which honestly is far from optimal.

The work has not stopped. We're still dealing with skills, it turned out to be harder than it looked like at a glance. (btw: still looking for 1.0.37 sfmiddleware.dll)
