Ive been following every progress since df1 shuttdown.. but havent seen any things that might indicate that we are moving into some direction which might actually succeed regarding df1 emulator or even maybe buy the source engine of the 1 game we all love..
Recently the youtube video of the standalone client intrested me a bit, but i think its more that some lonely people are toying around with the client and or server then people have serieus ideas and or goals to make it happen. ( prove/say otherswise)
I think its pretty clear that a big part of old players of darkfall are trying to get the old game running again..
Myself was the maker of the ippetitions darkfall server 1 and had some conversation with av about the petition..
Atleast what you call an conversation.. what i did is made a excel sheet of all signed players on that petition and emailed it to some developer(personal email) which i got from claus..
He had a debat with tasos about it and av is pretty clear about the subject of opening a darkfall 1 server.. NOT..
From what i know from reading is that lord zanul tried something aswell.. about buying the source engine code.. but he had feedback from av about it with a retarded price from around 650k orso.. this is an amount we simply cannot raise..
The last idea from zanuul might change in january when AV cant pay up the 2.5 mill to internetQ/Mgame.. we need to see what's happends..
So what are the options left?
Emulator... which will take lots knowlegdement from individuals and very time consuming to reach the same state of the engine and df1 world.
Are there now people trying to emulate doing individual stuff or are there multi people trying to coop with eachother to get it running?
- is there money needed @ this stage??
- Do these people think they will get it running? %?
If we wanne move forward. people need to debat and or discuss and be open minded about the df1 subject.. since reddit is open to read for all.. i think its might be wiser to debat it here instead of on reddit.
if we combine forces everything is possible.. Like for example putting some programmers on payroll throught donations to speed things up..

I comepletely agree, we most likely first have to get some more people involved/aware and get into contact with the people who are toying around with emulator stuff. I wish I could help in programming but I have no IT knowlegde, I will however help in anyway possible. Other darkfall 1 players will most likely do the same.

The first step to get this organized is to get as many people interested gathered here, an open arena to discuss it without AV's banhammer swinging. It is still not clear who is here just for the ride, or who will be willing to chip in on this either through money, knowledge or other ways.
The only way I really see this getting done is to get either this guy who posted the vid last night with us, or CrispyExtra (the other guy who stopped his project 1-2 years back i think). They have already done some work, know the structure of the game, and can help guide the project in the right direction.
Regarding workforce, when I first made this forum and tried to gather some people with IT experience, I also checked out freelancer.com and similar sites. The response was HUGE to participate on this project, and the prices were actually surprisingly low to hire experienced personell to work on this.
- What I envision: We get one of the two abovementioned guys with us, they tell us what they need done, we hire some cheap labour, and the project developes in this fashion, also taking into account anybody willing to take on assignments for free. Once the game is in a playable state, I believe server hiring would not be a big problem in terms of funding. Alot of people have already contacted me and said they would donate to keep a server alive.
Till then, we're all ears for ideas on getting this going on.

I'm not sure exactly how "professional" this emulation project is? Or if the emulated version of DFO would even be something worth playing (any major bugs and lags which are very common to appear in emulated projects would completely turn me off)...
Has anyone actually tried contacting AV and Tasos about DFO in a somewhat professional maner? (Not just through some hastily written email) If you want them to take us serious then you need to present the request in a serious manner as well.
I don't have a shadow of doubt that the DFO fans would be able to raise the money required to cover the hosting costs of a DFO server.
Aventurine hosting a DFO server funded by a community kickstarter, while still requiring a monthly sub price to play could actually turn into a profitable deal for them (Lets be honest, AV is probably desperate and near the brink of bankrupcy by now).. If someone could contact AV in a professional manner about a proposal similar to this I think we might have a fair shot.
Perhaps we would need to show renewed support for the DFO project through a new petition asking for an official DFO crowdfunded server or something similar first.

That is also an option, probably more prefferable. But so far AV has turned down every incentive for discussion about this matter. Though as you say, most attempts were probably hastily written e-mails. There have been petitions, but they fell to silent ears. I believe it's worth a shot in AV's current situation.

Its not gonna happen.. they will not open df1 server and or sell the df1 engine code for a reasonal price.. i am also intrested in the proffesionalisme of this emulator tryout project.

can you link me the post of the freelancer.com? And was it garanteed working emulator? what were the prices? I deleted it a couple of months ago when this project went silent. As you can see there's new hope with this new video being released, and I would sure as hell be creating a new one whenever this guy responds.

Like I said, presenting the idea in a more professional manner than a hastily written email or an ingame ticket would actually make them take the request more serious. No company suddenly makes a 360 degree business decision based off of one single email from a fan requesting it.. You need more than that if you want to get your message taken seriously and put into actual consideration. Same thing goes for the price of the engine. Were those "negotiations" based off of email correspondances as well? Are there actually any calculations or reasonings behind that 650k client price tag? For all we know Tasos might've just thought of a random number and thrown it out there.
