thats exactly pay2win, what people don't want. Yea, i know you can see it as p2w. Tho i dont consider it myself as p2w since you dont buy anything with real money (it wont guarentee you an house). But if you dont do a monthly subs, you should consider the f2p vs premium account way, it work on many other MMO that are not really p2w. Was just some ideas but im pretty sure you already know wich way you want to go. When you start charging a sub for a emu you will get youraelf in alot of trouble. This game wasnt made by thse guys they are making a private server out of it. It doesnt below to them there for they cannot charge admission to play.

Do not give away the server code, we need a large population if it gets to large open another server dont let ppl have there own server, if you decide togive up this projekt release the codes. thats exactly what will happen that's too bad. good luck to you, but that pretty much kills my interest. in this instance, my goals would be met by this project being "given up on"

When you start charging a sub for a emu you will get youraelf in alot of trouble. This game wasnt made by thse guys they are making a private server out of it. It doesnt below to them there for they cannot charge admission to play. Nothing is decided yet. Therefore any speculations about possible charges are useless at this moment. Everything has its pros and cons. As I already said: I'm a software developer myself. So I can put myself very well in the position of kinghussien. It is an extreme untertaking to reverse the client <> server communication and also to code a functional and stable MMO server, which is capable of serving hundreds of players at a reasonable performance. The work he is doing for us is invaluable and I'm already very grateful that he dedicates his lifetime and energy into this project. Therefore he deserves any form of compensation. So I for my part will donate him some 500€ or more without hesitation, when he manages to create a functional and stable DFO server. good luck to you, but that pretty much kills my interest. in this instance, my goals would be met by this project being "given up on" If you want a "private server for yourself", you can play the Standalone or DFUW. Because thats what the game will feel like if we allow people free access to the server application and code: You have like 20+ "private servers" with 10 players each. This means you will basically never meet anyone anywhere and will play all alone. And not to speak of the expected "admin abuse". You killed a childish admin or one of his friends? Well, guess whats gonna happen next. If you are afraid of "gank squads", then find some friends to play with and learn to defend yourself properly.

I'm disgusted by them. I prefer a light role-play aspect for a game like this. Which i'm never going to find on a public server. I prefer a minimum threshold of civility I'm also never going to find on a public server. But hey, you're the ones putting this together, far be it from me to tell you how to run your project. As stated, good luck to you.

Thanks! Hope you find something for you and your friends to play!
I couldn't imagine playing a private server of DFO with just a few friends on a massive world. The gameplay is great, but DFO's main content is other players. I would become very bored after a few days when I realise it's not an MMORPG. PvP and PvE would be meaningless if there was no real enemies.

Being the server code is being remade, will it be able to support a massive amount of people?

Being the server code is being remade, will it be able to support a massive amount of people? I think that is an ongoing optimization process. Performance of network code heavily depends on 1) server architecture, 2) code architecture, 3) optimization and prediction. The more people need to be "served", the slower it gets. But at the beginning I think it will not run very smooth with alot of people around. Maybe even worse than UW or MO. Keyword: Rubberbanding. kinghussien himself said the guy who wrote the Darkfall network code was a genius: www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/875/view/forums/post/6012103#6012103But as I said: Optimizing network code is an ongoing process. You can design it that it runs as fast and smooth as possible, but nothing is as good as a load of live data to work with. 2 years ago I started coding my own little "Darkfall 2D" prototypes and also a server-client prototype: Thats nothing compared to Darkfall. But I could run 20+ clients and the server on the same machine without problems. Above that it started to get choppy and "laggy". But I think that came from having the server app and 20+ clients running on the same machine. Would have been interessting to see how it runs with 20+ individual clients and the server on a powerful server rig.

If you hadn't noticed in your time in game, Darkfall is not exactly the place for the faint of heart or the "Trammy", as I like to call people... from the original UO days haha. Honestly though, the realistic nature of the game that brings out everyone's savage side is what makes the game so incredible IMO. Like nat said, group up with people, or learn to play smarter.
