To each their own. I'm not afraid of gank squads... I'm disgusted by them. I prefer a light role-play aspect for a game like this. Which i'm never going to find on a public server. I prefer a minimum threshold of civility I'm also never going to find on a public server. But hey, you're the ones putting this together, far be it from me to tell you how to run your project. As stated, good luck to you. Sounds like you should just go back to WoW or another fluffy game? If you hadn't noticed in your time in game, Darkfall is not exactly the place for the faint of heart or the "Trammy", as I like to call people... from the original UO days haha. Honestly though, the realistic nature of the game that brings out everyone's savage side is what makes the game so incredible IMO. Like nat said, group up with people, or learn to play smarter. oh, so you're one of those "git gut" type of idiots eh? i haven't played wow in years, (6 to be exact) and find most of those theme-park style games incredibly boring. i'm an old AC / Darktide player. who got really tired of that behavior 10 years ago. i wanted to see darkfall as a successor for me in that same vein. unfortunately that didn't happen. as my initial posting hinted at, i lay as much blame on the toxic nature of darkfall's original community as i do on AV. all of that aside, bashing me for wanting a private server for a group of ~40 people who i know that would have the same like-minded play doesn't bode well for the community behavior of this project. i could go into detail on how i find those roving gangs of idiots detrimental to new players, player retention and every long-term aspect of a game like darkfall, but it would fall on deaf ears if the responses so far are any example. i have no doubt that i'll play here, the original DF was just too enticing for me. (and obviously, i'm interested in being able to play it again) but please don't assume that i'm a carebear because i don't like seeing how new players are treated. (yes, i play eve too)

I don't see much problems with those people. All the time in DF I got ganked ALOT, yes. But it was always either due to city raiders or PvE spawn checkers. And thats part of the game, fighting over resources and farming those people who farm resources. The key was not to get caught with your pockets full of loot. And only like 3-4 times I got heavily bindstone camped, especially in Chaos Cities after they changed alignment so that you need to "pray" and spend money got get blue again. But then you either go AFK for 1-2 hours or just log off. But besides of that I never got killed / ganked without purpose. So it is all "good in the hood" for me. The biggest concern I have here is the rampant amount of cheaters / hackers the Emu project has to deal with.

The game just needed a better new player experience.
One example was how they implemented hundreds of quests to the game but no one did them because:
A) The rewards were shit
B) Half of all new players had no idea quests actually existed since there were zero indicators on the NPC's and you literally had to run around pressing F and then go to a hidden "quest" tab to see if the NPC had any.

There's actually some remnants of a quest indicator in the GUI files and art files. I'm sure if we really wanted to we could try and add them in. I vaguely remember there already being some for the 'kill this mob' quests. Though again, that's just time and effort diverted in the non essentials. And quest rewards are XML edits, achievements might be similar, but they are not in the stand alone right now. Speaking of which we really should get quests working.
