I don't know much about legal things partaining to this but as an old DF player the chance of it coming back excites me. They hinted at maybe brining it back, could the playerbase buy and run it for AV? Is that a serious option? What would it cost?

Money talks. Offer them like 1 Mio € for DF1 client & server source code and they will sell it most probably, maybe even cheaper. Other than that, Axilmar said on Reddit they are serious about bringing back DFO, but it is still in some kind of decision phase: www.reddit.com/r/Darkfall/comments/36ojbh/thank_you_axilmar/crpq5pe?context=3Even if they decide to bring it back, it might take 6-8 months according to the snail speed AV is working. Guess before we will see the first DFEmu version.

I would rather it be purchased by the community with an understanding it goes open source using a kickstarter. We give them money to bring it back the mismanagement will come back again down the line. If it were open source maybe some of the original devs might contribute since they put so much time into it

From my short impression of AV, they aren't the type of company which will bother taking a request from the comunity seriously.
