it might be a good time to bring in the kickstarter option. before we can actualy do it, we'd need to know how much the licensing would cost. IF we get a license, we're also allowed to take money from people - this would prevent hackers etc. It could only work tho, if we'd have a team working full-time on that project. That means fully paid by donations, monthly fee etc.

I think we should gather and discuss options.

I'm a huge DFO fanboy and a supporter of this emulator but I seriously think you guys are insane if you think you'd be able to kickstart enough money between the 2000 or less DF1 vets with enough funds to license the game, run a server and pay for support. Like seriously AV was a fairly decent sized company with a large staff base (in terms of indie companies) and 10 years of development behind them. As incompetent as AV are, if they couldn't do it then why would anyone here? I think you're kidding yourselves.

This'd require a huge undertaking from the community, with professional and semi-professional people involved, and lots of trust. The 5 figure sum isn't even the real obstacle, it's everything that comes after it. We'd still need to create a database, the AMS, server hosting, customer support, legal shit... list goes on. I hate to say it but I feel it's unrealistic from us and from the community. Unless there's a millionaire somewhere in the Darkfall community who's willing to support a bunch of sweaty nerds with a dream, I say we continue on our path. Fuck AV.

nat i agree it would be a huge undertaking, i still think we should call a meeting this week and discuss options. expertise with how DF1 things work and money will be our biggest obstacles. may be its possible we bring old devs/ and IT on board. i propose we meet late one of these evenings to brainstorm. should we also create a poll to get an idea of how many people are will pay a monthly and if 15-25$ is feasible.

I agree it would be tough, but if ever saw the light of day and everyone started playing again, I'm sure a bigger company could sponsor / link up with our devs to form something.

Yea, they lost the web interface and the database (if this is true), so you have to hire professional developers to fix the issue or fix yourself but need months if not years. The only solution is the short time will be that aome company or a rich dude buy it and hire temporary the old developers to fix all these issue, but of course it will cost lot of money. I have faith in the emu, but the emu i guess, will never see in a stable state the light before 1-2 years or more if the project don't get abandoned again. I guess i will move on and forget about DF1 for now, an amazing game with a great engine ruined by the incompetence of a disatrous company full of shit called AV.
