Hell, everyone!
All the talk of DFO returning has brought me back to the df forums and ultimately to here. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten any kind of clear numbers or information regarding what kind of a setup the server needs to run, bandwidth requirements, licensing fees/specifics?
I'm trying to get some more concrete info and see about how much of an investment is needed to even try to get DF re-opened. I feel like it left too early it had a ton of unrealized potential and the community was horribly treated by AV which led to it's downfall. The game with a few tweaks, a few new content additions and a more focused vision for the future I think could lead to the game finally taking off.
Anyways, anyone who has any information and/or who is seriously interested in this endeavour let me know!
Take care guys, Andrew

I'd guess contacting AV themselves would be the best option. Their message was very vague tbh. Dunno if AV would do the hosting themselves or if they would leave it to the license holder to figure it out.
Someone else mentioned something like 1000-2000$ a month for hosting costs.

Yeah I already emailed the company just waiting for an answer. I'm also trying to get in contact with the original developers to see about all this business about lawsuits and if they are interested in coming in on the project again.
Oh and the hosting costs would be a hell of a lot more than that figure probably. That might just cover bandwidth and login servers or something.

You can try emailing clrx01@gmail.com who is KingHussien, lead dev on this project. He might be able to give you an estimate on the type of server Darkfall needs. I'd wager it'd require quite a beefy one due to the logistics of an FPS MMORPG.
Don't jump the gun on anything just yet, let it simmer a while, the price of DFO will drop.

-Andrew Yep, i'm wondering how much this license will cost, but i guess they want a % of the eventual revenue each month plus a base price. To make DF1 a success again and unleash its true potential you should advertise the game on the major mmorpg websites through interviews and videos, hire old devs to fix it, then add new content, nre 3d models and envitoment, new specializations, free placeable holdings, rebalance character progression, fight hackers and so on... there is a lot of work involved and you need to manage all of this, aka you need to create a true game company, but for doing so you have to invest a lot of money, expecially at beginning. I'm with you and i can support (covering also a role if needed) but i'm pretty skeptical that a random guy can manage all this expecially without any experience in management. Btw, tell us if Av reply to your email, but i doubt knowing them and their crappy communication skills.

You rich as fuck or something Kimoshu? Heh no I have a few bucks I'd swing for a kickstarter but I'm looking at what would be required to get the game back running, looking up leads on programmers willing to work on it and trying to track down the original developers. I'm trying to get a picture of what would be necessary, figure out a dollar figure.
If the figure is reasonable around maybe no more than 200-250k then I'll go around putting hype back up on the game and see about a kickstarter/crowdsourcing campaign to raise the funds needed. My goal is to get the game back up and running as it was without changes with enough money to run the servers for 6-12 months with the kickstarter money alone.
There's a list of things I'd like to change/add and a vision for where to take the game in the future I'm working on as well. Once it is complete and if the feasibility of relaunching it and licensing works out I'll be seeking out input from the community to iron out a direction to take the game.
I'm waiting to hear back from AV on licensing costs and whatnot plus I've tracked down some contact information for some of the original developers on linkedin including the server programmer(Erik Sperling Johansen) and game logic programmer(Ricki Sickenger). I'll be reaching out to them tomorrow to get more information about the hosting requirements for the game which I expect is going to need a hefty server farm. I've hosted various games, websites and VoIP servers over the years and based on the complexity of Darkfall's collision detection and the size of the map I'm expecting 10-15k in server/bandwidth hosting for 5000-10000 concurrent users. That's just me guessing however, hopefully it is not much more than that or it is less!
I'm not a programmer so I cannot assist in that regard but I am good with people and hopefully I can bring together the right team and money to make this a reality or if another team is being formed we can pool our efforts. Anyone who is interested or able to help in this endeavour is free to email me at bowseristheman@gmail.com.

Btw, tell us if Av reply to your email, but i doubt knowing them and their crappy communication skills. Sometimes you'd be surprised how big things start so small. That's how DF came about I might add . I have several years experience as a community manager for an online game called Battle Dawn, as well as running their forums/moderators staff and being an admin on many game worlds answering questions and investigating cheating, bug testing, etc. It was a small company so I wore many hats! I did that for about 3 years most of it full time as employment, was a nice little job to do from home when my son was born. Now that was a different type of game and wasn't to the scale of Darkfall but I do have some relevant experience to the operations of a game development company.
I think that it is in the realm of possibility IF licensing is considered by AV then it`s all about getting the right people to work on it to get it back online and a sharp team with a focused path on where to take the game while not abusing the community with false promises and veiled intentions as was done in the past.
Worst case scenario I waste a few hours/days of my time attempting it and DFO rests for good, but hey why not try right?
